Moissanite Engagement Ring Cost Australia: 2026 Guide

A moissanite engagement ring in Australia costs between AU$1,150 and AU$5,500+, depending on centre stone carat, metal choice and setting complexity. Most couples spend AU$1,800 to AU$3,500 for a 1ct to 1.5ct ring in 14K or 18K gold. After a decade designing both moissanite and diamond engagement rings from our Melbourne studio, here's the honest 2026 pricing picture.

At-a-glance pricing: carat, metal and setting

These are baseline solitaire prices for a made-to-order ring, made in Melbourne and dispatched from our Southbank studio. GRC certification, lifetime stone and craftsmanship warranty and free Australia-wide insured delivery included.

Centre stone 9K gold 14K gold 18K gold 950 platinum
0.5ct solitaire $1,150–$1,350 $1,350–$1,650 $1,550–$1,950 $1,850–$2,250
1ct solitaire $1,400–$1,650 $1,850 $2,150 $2,450

2ct solitaire $2,150 $2,350 $2,750 $3,250
3ct solitaire $2,850 $3,150 $3,650 $4,350

Solitaire is the starting point. Add setting complexity (hidden halo, pavé, side stones, trilogy) and you'll add AU$200 to AU$1,500 on top, depending on how much detail you want. The full breakdown is further down.

What drives moissanite ring pricing in 2026

Four factors set the price of every ring we make. In rough order of impact:

Centre stone carat. The single biggest lever. Going from 1ct to 1.5ct adds around AU$200 in stone cost. Going from 1.5ct to 3ct adds around AU$1,000. Stones don't scale linearly: bigger gets disproportionately more expensive past 2ct.

Metal type and karat weight. 9K, 14K, 18K and 950 platinum are different alloys with different gold content. 18K has 75% pure gold; 9K has 37.5%. Platinum is denser and harder to work, which is why it costs more. Across the range, metal can swing the ring price by AU$600 to AU$1,000.

Setting complexity. A solitaire is one stone, four claws, a band. A pavé hidden halo trilogy is 30+ stones, micro-setting, multiple components. Time at the bench is where the cost sits. See the setting section for specifics.

Certification and warranty. Every ring we sell includes GRC moissanite certification, a lifetime stone and craftsmanship warranty, a free resize within 3 months, including return shipping both ways, and Australia-wide insured delivery. Cheaper online sellers strip these out to hit a lower price.

Price by centre stone carat

0.5ct (AU$1,150–$2,250). Suits ring sizes K to N, looks balanced on smaller fingers. Popular for daintier styles and stacked sets.

1ct (AU$1,400–$2,450). The most-ordered size at our studio, starting from about AU$1,400. Works on every finger size from J to Q. About 6.5mm round, which reads as a clear engagement ring without dominating the hand.

1.5ct (AU$1,850–$2,750). The sweet spot for finger sizes M and up. Around 7.5mm round. Noticeable presence without going oversized.

2ct (AU$2,150–$3,250). Statement-size. Suits longer fingers and bigger hands. Around 8mm round. Worth seeing in person before committing: what looks normal in photos looks different on a hand.

3ct (AU$2,850–$4,350). Large by Australian standards. Works on size N+ fingers. About 9.3mm round. Most buyers at this size choose oval or elongated cushion to spread the visual weight.

Oval is the most-ordered cut across every carat: it gives more finger coverage per carat than round. Browse the oval cut collection for current designs.

Price by metal: solid gold karats and platinum

9K gold (most affordable). 37.5% pure gold. Harder than 18K, so it wears extremely well. About 30% cheaper than 18K for the same setting. Most popular metal for first-time engagement ring buyers in Australia. Available in yellow, white and rose.

14K gold (mid-tier). 58.5% pure gold. The standard in the US, increasingly common in Australia. Balances gold content with hardness. About 15% cheaper than 18K.

18K gold (premium). 75% pure gold. Richer colour, especially in yellow and rose. Softer than 9K or 14K but still durable enough for daily wear with sensible care. The classic choice.

950 platinum (top tier). 95% pure platinum, naturally white, never needs replating. Hypoallergenic, very dense, holds claws tight for decades. About 20-30% more than 18K white gold. The right choice for people with metal allergies or those who want the best for life.

Price by setting complexity

Solitaire is the baseline, and settings on their own start at AU$800 before you add your centre stone. Everything below is added cost on top of the solitaire price.

Hidden halo (+$100–$300). A ring of micro-pavé directly under the centre stone, visible from the side only. Adds 0.1–0.2ct of perceived size from above without changing the silhouette. See the hidden halo collection and our hidden halo style guide.

Half pavé band (+$200–$400). Small accent stones across the top half of the band. Adds sparkle without affecting the underside (where comfort matters).

Full pavé band (+$300–$600). Pavé all the way around. A strong visual effect, but requires more care at the bench and during resizing.

Three-stone trilogy (+$200–$500). Centre stone plus two side stones (often 0.25–0.5ct each). Classic style that suits most cuts.

Side stones (+$500–$2,000). Larger accent stones flanking the centre: pear, baguette or trillion shapes. Cost scales with the size of the side stones.

Traditional halo (+$300–$600). A ring of small stones around the centre, visible from every angle. Makes the centre look 0.3–0.5ct larger. Browse the halo collection for current designs.

Stacking add-ons works fine. A hidden halo with a half pavé band is common, runs around +$400 total.

Comparison: moissanite vs lab-grown diamond vs natural diamond at 1.5ct

For the same setting and metal, here's what 1.5ct of each stone costs in 2026:

Stone 1.5ct ring price (18K) vs moissanite
Moissanite (GRC D-E VVS) AU$2,000–$3,500 baseline
Lab-grown diamond (IGI D-F VVS+) AU$3,500–$5,500 +AU$1,500–$2,000
Natural mined diamond (GIA F VS) AU$10,000–$15,000 +AU$8,000–$11,500

At 1.5ct, the visual difference between moissanite and a lab-grown diamond is subtle: most people couldn't pick which is which from a metre away. The price difference is real. For the full comparison, read moissanite vs lab-grown diamond in Australia. For the broader moissanite-vs-diamond picture, see our keystone moissanite vs diamond guide.

The four Cs, applied to moissanite

Diamond grading uses Carat, Cut, Colour, Clarity. Moissanite uses the same framework but the practical answers are different.

  • Carat: Moissanite is slightly less dense than diamond, so a 1ct moissanite is fractionally larger in millimetres than a 1ct diamond. Most people prefer to spec by mm, not carat. A 6.5mm round is typical for a 1ct equivalent.
  • Cut: The only one that genuinely matters for sparkle. Stick with ideal or excellent. Our suppliers cut to that standard.
  • Colour: D-E (colourless) is what we use. Anything lower starts to show a yellow tint in daylight.
  • Clarity: VVS is what we use. Lab-grown stones don't have the inclusions mined diamonds do, so the clarity question is mostly settled by the manufacturing process.

Durability

Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale. Diamond is 10. In day-to-day wear the difference doesn't show. Moissanite is actually tougher against impact than diamond because it doesn't have cleavage planes. Both are everyday-wear stones, and we back ours with a lifetime stone and craftsmanship warranty.

Why our pricing is what it is

Every ring we make includes things that aren't always included elsewhere. What's in our price:

  • GRC certification on every moissanite. Independent verification of colour, clarity and cut.
  • Lifetime stone and craftsmanship warranty. Covers crafting faults (wear excluded). Bring it back at year 10, year 20, year 30.
  • Free resize within 3 months, including return shipping both ways. Fingers change. We resize free of charge within the first 3 months.
  • Free Australia-wide insured delivery. Signed for, fully tracked, fully insured.
  • Made to order. Made in Melbourne and dispatched from our Southbank studio.
  • Progress photos during make. We send pictures at each stage so you see your ring come together.

If you compare us against ultra-cheap online sellers, we won't be the cheapest line item. We will be cheaper than any high-street jeweller offering the same inclusions.

A rough rule of thumb: if you see a sub-AU$800 moissanite engagement ring online, check what the seller covers if a claw bends in year three or the stone needs re-tipping in year ten. Most don't cover anything beyond 12 months. Our lifetime warranty isn't an upsell; it's how we make rings that get worn for 30+ years without becoming someone else's repair job. The price difference between us and a no-warranty online seller is, in most cases, the cost of one major repair down the line.

How to stretch your budget

Five practical levers to drop the price without dropping the quality:

Drop carat from 1.5ct to 1ct. Saves around AU$500. Visual difference is real but not dramatic, most people don't notice 0.5ct on a hand.

Choose 9K over 18K gold. Saves AU$400 to AU$700 depending on setting. 9K wears harder than 18K, so it's actually more practical for active lives.

Choose solitaire over halo. Saves AU$200 to AU$400. A well-cut solitaire showcases the centre stone better anyway.

Browse the budget collection. Our under AU$2,000 collection is curated for buyers with a hard cap. Every ring includes the full warranty and certification.

Choose ready-to-ship. The ready-to-ship collection skips the make time for made-to-order rings, which are ready within 6 weeks (or 3 weeks express for an additional AU$400). Same price tier, same inclusions, ships within 3–5 business days.

Or design your own from scratch using our ring builder: settings start at AU$800, then you choose centre stone and metal separately, so you can see exactly where the cost sits. A complete ring with a 1ct moissanite starts from about AU$1,400.

Pricing FAQ

How much is a 1 carat moissanite engagement ring in Australia?
A 1ct moissanite solitaire starts from about AU$1,400 in 9K gold and goes up to AU$2,450 in 950 platinum. Add a hidden halo or pavé and you're between AU$1,850 and AU$2,950. Most 1ct rings sold at our studio land between AU$1,850 and AU$2,300.

What's the cheapest moissanite engagement ring you sell?
A 0.5ct solitaire in 9K gold starts at AU$1,150. It includes the same lifetime stone and craftsmanship warranty and GRC certification as our premium rings. Browse the under AU$2,000 collection for the full range.

Is paying more for higher karat gold worth it?
It depends on what you value. 18K has a richer yellow colour and feels more luxurious in hand. 9K is harder, wears better, and costs less. Both will last a lifetime with normal care. Most Australian buyers at our studio choose 14K or 18K for the colour and 9K when budget is the priority.

Why are some moissanite rings cheaper online?
Usually because they strip out the inclusions: no independent certification, no lifetime warranty, no resizing, plated or hollow settings, imported casting. Our pricing reflects a fully inclusive made-to-order ring. Compare on inclusions, not on headline price.

Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. We offer Afterpay for orders up to AU$4,000, and PayPal Pay in 4 for splitting smaller amounts. For larger orders we can structure a deposit + balance plan. Email or call to arrange.

How long does a made-to-order ring take?
Within 6 weeks from order to delivery. If you're working to a proposal date, our express service brings that down to 3 weeks for an additional AU$400.

What's included in the price?
GRC certification, lifetime stone and craftsmanship warranty, a free resize within 3 months, including return shipping both ways, free Australia-wide insured delivery, a made-to-order ring made in Melbourne and dispatched from our Southbank studio, progress photos during make, presentation box. Everything you need.

Can I customise without paying custom-ring prices?
Yes. Our ring builder lets you mix and match centre stones, metals and settings without the bespoke design fee. True custom work (one-of-a-kind designs from sketch) starts at AU$3,500. For most couples, ring builder gets you 95% of what you'd want from custom, at standard collection pricing.
