Pricing is the least transparent part of the engagement ring industry, and lab-grown diamonds have made it more confusing, not less, because prices have moved so fast that advice from 2022 is already wrong. The five levers that set the price
1. Carat weight
Carat is the biggest lever by far, and pricing is not linear: a 2ct stone costs well more than double a 1ct, because larger rough is harder to grow flawlessly. This is where lab-grown shines against mined; stepping up half a carat costs hundreds rather than many thousands.
2. Colour and clarity
Grades move price significantly, which is why we standardise instead of making you gamble. DEF is the colourless band, the top of the colour scale, and VVS+ means any inclusions are effectively invisible even under magnification. Buying below that saves money on paper but is exactly where regret lives; buying above it, into flawless territory, buys a certificate difference no eye can see.
3. Cut and shape
Cut quality determines sparkle and is the one grade never to economise on. Shape moves price more modestly: rounds cost the most per carat because they waste the most rough, while ovals, pears and other fancy shapes are often slightly cheaper and look larger per carat.
4. Metal
Our rings are made in 9K solid gold as standard, a hard-wearing choice we genuinely recommend for daily wear, not a downgrade. Stepping to 14K adds $350, 18K adds $700, and platinum sits near 14K in price.
5. Setting complexity
A clean solitaire is the most affordable frame. Hidden halos, pavé bands, trilogies and side-stone designs add labour and accent stones, typically adding a few hundred dollars per tier of complexity.

The honest resale conversation
Here is the part you deserve straight. Lab-grown diamond prices have fallen steadily as production has scaled, which is exactly why they are now such good buying, and it also means a lab-grown diamond is not an investment. Resale value is poor, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. Two things keep this in perspective. First, mined diamond resale is also far weaker than the industry implies; most mined stones resell for a large discount to retail. Second, nobody buys an engagement ring to flip it. You are buying decades of daily wear, and on that measure a stone that cost $2,600 and is guaranteed for life is a better deal than one that cost $10,000 and resells for $4,000.
